Review of Pages 1-36, Blogging

--Read pp. vii-36 in the Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging. (Book is now available in the bookstore.) This includes the Forward, the Introduction, Chapter 1, and part of Chapter 2. Much of this material is designed to make blogging appeal to you, and you’ll find lots of personal accounts addressing the question “why blog?” Comment on which reasons you find most compelling? Why? Least compelling? Why?

This section of the book seemed intent to hype its reader up about the prospect of blogging. It’s spoke of blogging as an utterly addictive and mind opening act that is better than any experience ever attempted. To say the least, I had a feeling of over enthusiasm about this section. The forward, by Arianna Huffinton herself, boasted on her success as a great blogger. To her bloggers were a united, serious front to fight current events. Although I’m sure that is what blogging means to some, others are just doing it to pass time, or to try to put their unfinished thoughts out there. Perhaps the writer of ‘Complete Guide to Blogging” has assumed that the reader is also caught up in the fast paced world where blogging is as important as life itself. Another thought, does this book do me any good? Isn’t the fun of blogging about exploring all the gagets and figuring it out yourself? I’m most likely being a little too critical, but as a recent blogger, I feel that there advice is helpful, but maybe a little too helpful.

In terms of why blog?? I mostly liked the reasons revolving on getting a thought, without it being perfect or polished, out there into cyberspace. It gives any individual with an internet connection and some sort of passion an endless amount of space in blogosphere. However, I would also argue that there is nothing as special and rewarding as writing to yourself in your favorite tattered notebook. Here you can doodle and even write a funny story while life is in action. What I found a little disturbing was the notion that people blog purely to vent anger over something or someone. I understand a blog’s therapeutic possibilities, but I feel that blogs should be kept welcoming, not hateful. However, there’s probably more than one person who hates it, as I do, when someone talks on the phone while using a public bathroom, so why shouldn’t I blog about it?..... Read More......

Class post for Friday the 13th

Critique of my blog:
My rhetoric:
I find that I’m mostly creating pleasure, by writing with a light hearted spirit and making it known that I’m just an ordinary college kid. I also believe that I’m trying to provide information about becoming eco friendly, however, I may not have gotten to educating yet. My goal is to keep my post fairly short, without feeling the pressure to make a concrete intro, body and conclusion, my blog can just end and leaving readers wondering.

I tried to make my blog as visual as possible. I know that my personal preference is something that catches my eye with a message, but I know that there things can easily be overdone.

So far there is no active participation on my blog. I still need to get a little more informed on this aspect. My first task it to learn how to put in a you tube video, and then put in some activity with a survey.

My thesis could still be narrowed down. I was originally hoping to solely write about my adventures in being green, however, as I thought about it more I realized that I might not have time to work on a garden extensively. I’m trying to keep it somewhat in the middle, between an average busy person, and someone who is dedicated to going green.

Concepts brought up in class:
My group really admired Geoff’s strong message of exactly what he was saying with his visuals. We talked about the differences of what our own blogs would like to do. For example, Matt’s blog may not really want to educate, because that’s a little too deep for him. He’d rather just show people what’s out there, just so they know whereas Geoff and myself are out to change the world, or at least try to.

I really enjoy this blog because i have acquired a taste for New Mexican food and i will be keeping up to date on this blog to see the best places to eat in the local area. I will certainly be making the time to have dinner at Los Cuates because of the raving reviews. I love the way you have put pictures up and this adds to my understanding of what it is like. great start.

This comment was posted on New Mexican Taste Buds by group member Joe Wood. Victor is working on bringing up the flavors of Albuquerque with first hand and honest experience. To me, this comment is especially important because it details with someone who hasn’t had a lot of experience with Albuquerque, whose mind is open.

Love the layout of the blog and I'm impressed by the collection of video's you got up. It's refreshing to see a blog that doesn't just talk about the Big Four American sports, instead taking advantage of a unique point of view. I can imagine you are quite the Beckham and Tiger Woods fan. I really like the name, it gives a sense of truly having a differant POV.

I chose this comment on Joe Wood’s Sports on Both Sides of the Pond because it really hit home on how his blog has the possibility to be truly insightful for die hard fans and not so into it folks like myself. Having a unique perspective is something we often don’t realize, but this comment focuses on it.
